About the Library
Originally founded in 1916, the present-day library opened its doors at 700 Fifth Street, Moundsville, in January of 1962. We used to be called the City-County Public Library, but now our official name is the Moundsville-Marshall County Public Library.  We have two branch libraries: Benwood-McMechen and Cameron. We also act as regional headquarters for several affiliate libraries, forming a service center that has gone by the name of the Miracle Valley Regional Library System.
The main (ground floor) area of the library is wheelchair-accessible, including a restroom. The Children's Room & Meeting Room (lower level) are not. A chair-lift is available at the stairs by the Tomlinson Avenue doors.
The West Virginia Library Network
That Was Then:  In 2005, a new consortium was launched: the Northern Library Network (NorLN for short). More than 40 libraries in 17 counties in the northern region of West Virginia were participants--and that includes the Moundsville-Marshall County Public Library. New yellow library cards were issued to our patrons that could be used at any of the participating libraries.

This Is Now:  In 2020, the Northern Library Network joined with the Mountain Library Network and other libraries in West Virginia to form a new consortium named the West Virginia Library Network, or WVLN. Your one Marshall County library card now gives you access to the collections of over 100 libraries in 37 counties. Your yellow "NorLN" card continues to work until we replace or relabel it in the near future.

Directions and Map
From Rt. 2 (Lafayette Ave. in Moundsville), turn east onto Fifth Ave. and go one block to Tomlinson Ave. The library is on the corner of 5th & Tomlinson.
Getting A Library Card
Residents of Marshall County are eligible for a free library card (there is a small charge for replacement cards). To register, come to the Library with a valid ID that shows your current address.  If you're under 18, your parent or legal guardian needs to sign the registration along with you. If you already have a card from another WVLN or NorLN library you don't need to get another one to use our library. If you aren't able to come into the library in person you can call or email us to find out how we can get you a library card, or check the library's Facebook Page for the Temporary Card registration form.
Borrowing Materials
You need a library card to borrow items. Most items can be renewed if no one else has asked for them. (ILL materials usually cannot be renewed.) The regular loan periods are:
Books - 2 weeks
Audiobooks - 2 weeks
Videos - 2 days

Public Internet-Access Computers
There are 12 computers in the ground floor reference area and 1 computer in the downstairs Children's Room, available on a 'first-come first-serve' basis. You need to 'sign up' first at the Circulation Desk to use them; you do not need to have a library card. In general, we do not reserve times or keep a waiting list. If others are waiting to use the computers, you will be asked to finish after 1 hour of use.  If you bring in your own laptop computer, you can take advantage of our free wireless Internet access within the library building. (Sorry, no printing with the wireless service.)
