JUNE 3  Mon. 6 pm – DR. HARRIET JONES: MARSHALL COUNTY’S LEADING LADY  Margaret Brennan, one of the area’s most respected historians, presents the remarkable life of Harriet Jones of Glen Dale, who became WV’s first woman doctor in 1886…and then some! Cookies.

JUNE 4, 5, 6, 7 - ‘CAT IN THE HAT KNOWS A LOT ABOUT THAT’ CAMP FOR EARLY LEARNERS  PRE-REGISTRATION IS A MUST – Attendance on all four days is expected, 3-5 pm. This is an Inquire Within Family Learning event with adults & children (ages 4-6) working together on STEM activities inspired by PBS Kids CITH episodes. Call for details. THIS CAMP IS NOW FULL.

JUNE 11  Tue. 5:30-7:30 pm – MICHAEL ALBERT NY POP COLLAGE ARTIST  Presentation & art workshop for 7 year-olds to seniors. Enjoy creative recycling by making a collage from cereal boxes. Free art gift! Same program at the Benwood-McMechen Library at 1:30 to 3:30 pm.

JUNE 13  Thur. 6 pm – After-HoursFILM SHOWING: Boundaries  Comedy-Drama. Habitual animal-rescuer Laura (Vera Farmiga) and her son Henry (Lewis MacDougall) are forced to drive her estranged, pot-dealing, carefree father Jack (Christopher Plummer) across country after being kicked out of a nursing home. R, 105 min., 2018.  

JUNE 25  Tue. 6 pm – FILM SHOWING: Stan & Ollie  Bio-Comedy-Drama. Comedy duo Laurel & Hardy on a grueling final tour. PG, 97 min, 2018.

Much of the Library's adult programming is made possible through a generous donation by The Baker Family, in memory of long-time Marshall County resident Robert (Bob) Baker.


Our regularly scheduled USED BOOK SALES take place the first weekend in May  and the first weekend in October. Details of the exact dates and times will be available a few weeks ahead of the sale.

WEATHER-RELATED CLOSURES
Our normal hours may be disrupted by bad weather and road conditions during the winter. Please call the Marshall County Libraries before you venture out on days with lots of snow and icing to make sure we're open and not closing early.

FREE LIBRARY E-BOOKS

If you haven't already tried ebooks you can get them for free on your computer and most ereaders or smart phones..A current Marshall County library card, an internet connection on your PC, Mac, or portable device, and some free software is essentially all you need. Visit our "Open 24/7" virtual branch at WV READS. There are more detailed instructions there including a link to a list of compatible devices.

MARSHALL COUNTY VETERANS BOOK Author Gary L. Rider, a familiar face at the Moundsville Library and a retired Marshall County school teacher released his book entitled Marshall County Patriots and Heroes: From the Civil War to Afghanistan on Veterans Day 2010. The book is a compilation of Marshall County veterans' stories, with 131 profiles of men and women who have served in the U.S. military, including Jonathan Lockwood, Addie Gable, Jack McKee, Dave and Dan Ealy, Sam Shaw and many others. The second volume became available Nov. 10, 2011. The third volume was released Nov. 8, 2012. The 4th volume was released Nov. 7, 2013. The 5th volume was released in Nov. 2014. The 6th volume was released in Nov. 2015. The 7th volume was released in Nov. 2017. The 8th volume was released in Nov. 2018. Copies can be purchased from Gary Rider or at select locations in the area.



Whenever possible, our presenters' books, CDs, etc., will be available for purchase & signing.

WIRELESS SERVICE IS HERE!
Free wireless internet service may now be accessed within and very near the Library building.   Bring in your notebook or laptop computer, wireless-ready and battery-powered, and get a user name, password and time allotment at the Circulation Desk.  This service is made available through a grant provided by the Library Services and Technology Act, administered by the Institute of Museum and Library Services, and the West Virginia Library Commission.

SUMMER READING PROGRAM 2019
You may start registering for the Summer reading Program and pick up a reading record on May 31. A schedule of special events is now available.

EXTRA SPECIAL OFF-SITE EVENTS
These library-sponsored events take place at other locations in Moundsville.

JUNE 10 – Mon. @ 11 am PLANETARIUM SHOW: ONE WORLD, ONE SKY: BIG BIRD’S ADVENTURE   Muppets help take you on a tour of the night sky, from the CARNEGIE SCIENCE CENTER.  Pre-K - 2nd grade. At the STRAND THEATRE.

JUNE 10 – Mon. @ 1 pm PLANETARIUM SHOW: PLANETS   Recognizing the planets and observing their motions, from the CARNEGIE SCIENCE CENTER.  2nd-6th grade. At the STRAND THEATRE.

AUGUST 6 – Tue.  Every half hour starting at 11 am - Last show at 1:30 pm   NASA STARLAB PLANETARIUM SHOWS – Explore space, the constellations, Native American skies and more! For K-6th grade. At the GRAVE CREEK MOUND MUSEUM.

PRESCHOOL STORYTIME
(September thru May)

This is a free program open to all 2- to 5-year-olds.  Please call or stop by the Children's Department for details. Registration is requested. The schedule is:

  • Tuesdays  11 a.m.
  • Wednesdays  2:00 p.m.
  • Thursdays  2:00 p.m.
Each "class" meets for about 45 minutes for stories, songs, games, simple art projects and social interaction. For more information about these and other upcoming special programs, contact the library.
