AUGUST 12  Mon. 6 pm – CHRISAGIS BROTHERS BOOK TALK & SIGNING   Nationally known award-winning Christian performing artists, the Chrisagis Brothers will present their new book, co-written with Debbie Fuller - A Legacy of Love. It tells of the struggles and faith of their family and the miraculous story of the early years for twins Brian and Shawn. Fascinating and inspiring. The book will be available for sale and signing. 

AUGUST 15  Thur. 6 pm – After-Hours FILM SHOWING: A Walk On the Moon  Drama-Romance. Acclaimed movie you may have missed when it was originally released in 1999. Set in 1969 with the first moon walk and Woodstock as a backdrop. A young housewife's world is turned upside down when she has an affair with a salesman. Stars Diane Lane, Viggo Mortensen, Liev Schreiber, Anna Paquin. Rated R, 107 min.  

AUGUST 27  Tue. 6 pm – FILM SHOWING: Tolkien  Historical Bio-Drama. Explores the formative years of renowned author J.R.R. Tolkien, played by Nicholas Hoult. These early years helped inspire him to write his Middle-earth novels. PG-13, 112 min, 2019.

Much of the Library's adult programming is made possible through a generous donation by The Baker Family, in memory of long-time Marshall County resident Robert (Bob) Baker.


Our regularly scheduled USED BOOK SALES take place the first weekend in May  and the first weekend in October. Details of the exact dates and times will be available a few weeks ahead of the sale.

WEATHER-RELATED CLOSURES
Our normal hours may be disrupted by bad weather and road conditions during the winter. Please call the Marshall County Libraries before you venture out on days with lots of snow and icing to make sure we're open and not closing early.

FREE LIBRARY E-BOOKS

If you haven't already tried ebooks you can get them for free on your computer and most ereaders or smart phones..A current Marshall County library card, an internet connection on your PC, Mac, or portable device, and some free software is essentially all you need. Visit our "Open 24/7" virtual branch at WV READS. There are more detailed instructions there including a link to a list of compatible devices.

MARSHALL COUNTY VETERANS BOOK Author Gary L. Rider, a familiar face at the Moundsville Library and a retired Marshall County school teacher released his book entitled Marshall County Patriots and Heroes: From the Civil War to Afghanistan on Veterans Day 2010. The book is a compilation of Marshall County veterans' stories, with 131 profiles of men and women who have served in the U.S. military, including Jonathan Lockwood, Addie Gable, Jack McKee, Dave and Dan Ealy, Sam Shaw and many others. The second volume became available Nov. 10, 2011. The third volume was released Nov. 8, 2012. The 4th volume was released Nov. 7, 2013. The 5th volume was released in Nov. 2014. The 6th volume was released in Nov. 2015. The 7th volume was released in Nov. 2017. The 8th volume was released in Nov. 2018. Copies can be purchased from Gary Rider or at select locations in the area.



Whenever possible, our presenters' books, CDs, etc., will be available for purchase & signing.

WIRELESS SERVICE IS HERE!
Free wireless internet service may now be accessed within and very near the Library building.   Bring in your notebook or laptop computer, wireless-ready and battery-powered, and get a user name, password and time allotment at the Circulation Desk.  This service is made available through a grant provided by the Library Services and Technology Act, administered by the Institute of Museum and Library Services, and the West Virginia Library Commission.

SUMMER READING PROGRAM 2019
The Summer Reading Program is wrapping up but there's still time to bring in reading records to get coupons and prizes. And remember to attend the Splashdown Party at 11 a.m. on August 8 - we'll have the raffle ticket drawings for our big prizes.

EXTRA SPECIAL OFF-SITE EVENTS
These library-sponsored events take place at other locations in Moundsville.


AUGUST 6 – Tue.  Every half hour starting at 11 am - Last show at 1:30 pm   NASA STARLAB PLANETARIUM SHOWS – Explore space, the constellations, Native American skies and more! For K-6th grade. At the GRAVE CREEK MOUND MUSEUM.

AUGUST 5 – Mon. @ 5 pm   MOVIE: STARDUST   Fantasy-adventure – A fallen star has magic coveted by a witch! PG-13, 127 min.

AUGUST 6 – Tue. @ 3 pm  ROCKETS!  (2 hrs.)  Making and launching different kinds of rockets with NASA!


AUGUST 8 – Thur. @ 11 am  SRP SPLASHDOWN PARTY!   Games, treats, and raffle for big prizes!

AUGUST 10 - Sat. @ 2 - 4 p.m.  DAY AT HOGWARTS  Harry Potter-inspired event for ages 6 to 12.. Pre-registration required.

PRESCHOOL STORYTIME
(September thru May)

This is a free program open to all 2- to 5-year-olds.  Please call or stop by the Children's Department for details - changes to the schedule are possible. Registration is requested. The schedule is:

  • Tuesdays  11 a.m.
  • Wednesdays  2:00 p.m.
  • Thursdays  2:00 p.m.
Each "class" meets for about 45 minutes for stories, songs, games, simple art projects and social interaction. For more information about these and other upcoming special programs, contact the library.
